POLYCHROMA THEATRE – Bvlgari 2025
Immersive site-specific installation by Giuseppe Lo Schiavo
In collaboration with Fondazione Bvlgari
Polychroma Theatre is an immersive installation conceived in collaboration with Fondazione Bvlgari, on the occasion of the presentation of the Polychroma collection in Sicily. The work transforms the exhibition space into a true immersive stage, where history, light, and technology merge in a continuously evolving choreography.
At the center of this scene stands the Farnese Maenad, a Roman marble sculpture from the Antonino Salinas Regional Archaeological Museum in Palermo. An ancient priestess of the Dionysian cult, the Maenad is a mythological figure who embodies ecstasy, energy, and freedom — elements that are reimagined here through a contemporary language.
The statue becomes the protagonist of a visual and performative act, a modern ritual in which classical art is reinterpreted through the lens of technology.

The environment is composed of three main scenographic elements:
Kinetic Lights: Like moving stage spotlights, motorized beams of light orbit around the sculpture, casting shadows and highlights that continuously transform its presence in the space.
3D Video Projections: The walls of the room come to life with custom-designed 3D graphics. Iridescent colors, mineral textures, liquid geometries—each visual element forms part of a carefully crafted visual dramaturgy.
Infinity Room: The space is lined with mirrored surfaces that infinitely multiply the scene, dissolving the boundaries between real and reflected, between performer and viewer.
Polychroma Theatre is an immersive experience designed to evoke an emotional and sensory orbit, where past and present merge into a single visual narrative. The Maenad is no longer just a sculpture: she becomes a living presence on stage, traversed by light and memory.
The chromatic inspiration for the work draws from the gemstones used in Bvlgari’s Polychroma collection, as well as from the legacy of the Roman Empire, which embraced color as a symbol of prestige and cultural openness. In this theatre of light, color becomes a universal language, a scenic gesture, a bridge between civilizations.
Light is movement.
Movement is culture.
Culture is transformation.
Transformation is color.
Color is a frequency of light,
passing through matter
and becoming culture, symbol, memory.
It is natural pattern and shared language,
born from the earth, lived by humankind,
a bridge between places, times, and civilizations.
In a continuous orbit between matter and time,
a sculpture breathes light,
as the past dances with the future.
Piazza Polychroma is a place of visions,
an open space where light becomes color,
where every shade and every reflection
is an invitation to a journey
through beauty in motion.
A tribute to the art of Bvlgari,
which transforms color into a timeless language
within an endless space.
