Reality is a fluid and fragile condition, experienced through layers of mediation rather than direct contact. The simulated and the virtual now hold the same weight as the physical, and an image no longer needs an origin in the world to be true.

Windowscapes takes the oldest metaphor of the image and turns it inward. Since Alberti, the picture has been understood as a window opened onto the world. Here the window opens instead onto places held in memory and built in space: seascapes, gardens and horizons that exist as image rather than location. Lo Schiavo grew up among the windows his father built, and the same gesture returns in this work, an opening shaped by hand, looking onto landscapes that live in the image itself.

The images keep the optical truth of a photograph while being built entirely through simulation, the way a stage set is assembled, every element placed, sculpted and lit by hand. Their surfaces carry real photographs: most of the textures are photographic images of real matter, lifted from their original instant and place, then rebuilt in space and relit by simulated light. Photography expands from the capture of a single moment into a navigable image, a method Lo Schiavo introduced in 2022 as Simulated Photography.
